The Lyses and Their Basic Characteristics
The lyses (lysis as singular) are a very old life form. They can be described as a kind of mobile plant. Although this description allows us to comprehend them very quickly, it can be deceiving.
The lyses are in actuality big plant colonies. Their main body named Libriu appears like a giant ivy. The libriu of the lyses that live in forests have a great ability of camouflage. Since they look like overgrown ivies, for most animals and even humans that don't have sufficient knowledge about them they are very hard to notice. Victims that come too close to the libriu get caught by the extensions called erius organs and strangled to death. AFterwards, the body fluids of the victim are sucked off and the dry body of the victim is consumed by the laironds.
Laironds are the mobile members of the lysis colony. Their name, in the language of Sandilli who are the discoverers of them, means “guardian”. Steered by the main colony, laironds have motion-sensitive direction finding and system of hunting. When under attack, the lysis colony “hurls” the laironds from the mian body and unleashed on the enemy. Laironds can camouflage with extraordinary speed. They are fast and poisonous. Besides, due to being controlled by the main body, they are extremely fearless and they cannot be stopped unless they die or are killed. In short, they are a real trouble.
Lysis colonies are one of the most dangerous and devious hunters of the forests. In spite of all their powers they also have a weakness: fire ants. Fire ants, carry out systematic plunder raids in the spiral area during their hives. They kill every living being that stands in their way, cut them to pieces and carry them to their hives. Millions of them attack at the same time and they are very hard to control. For this reason, animals have to stay out of their way, however, due to the main body of the lyses being immobile they cannot run. They don't have any biological weapons against the ants either, for the ants are resistant to the poison of their main bodies. The biggest fortune the ants can hope for is meeting a lysis colony, there's nothing a lysis can do while being torn into pieces slowly by the ants.
The Habitat of the Lyses
The lyses live throughout the thick forest regions of the Sorién continent. They aren't affected by the climate too much, and for this reason they can both live in the forests of cold regions and lush and tropical jungles. Also, having been through a very successful evolutionary period, they can attune to the climate conditions of any region they live in perfectly.
Unlike most species, the lyses can live in the Foggy Forests, the Misty Islands, the habitats of the Superior Species, the Broken Island even the forests on the glacial isles. The major concentration is known to exist in a huge area from today's Pyroñom Shardom's middle sections to the Galljan Empire's north.
The Relations between the Lyses and the Humans
The lyses are an ancient species. Every human civilization had negative relationships with them and refer to them as trouble.
Even today the lyses are a factor that prevents hmans from settling in the thich forest regions. Throughout the history, there are times that big armies had to steer around forests to carry on their conquests due to the concentrated population of the lyses. Few species had this much of an impact on the humankind's daily life and even battles.
The lyses actually appear to be a species that is easy for the humans to eradicate. Especially when the power of the modern humanity is considered, it shouldn't be hard for a state to clear a forest from the lyses. It is possible to reach this conclusion at first glance, however the lyses have another special weapon. Being defenseless against a simple horde of ants, the lyses have a very effective defense system against their bigger and stronger enemies like the humans. With a basic definition; mass defense...
It is discovered much later that the lysis colonies can communicate with each other. Moreover, a lysis colony can send a signal to every other colony existing in a miles-wide radius. When under a serious attack, al the lyses of the region can send their laironds at the enemy. Biologists, while thinking that the lyses might be one single mega-colony in actuality, are impressed by this form of behavior.
Although the lyses can mass-defend themselves, they are helpless against the fast-advancing technologies and atrónolgy of the humans. They might have defended themselves successfully against the humans until today, however, the Pyorkans managed to purge numerous forests from the lyses in the last century. The Pyrokans used the method of raising an atrónic barrier to collapse the signal mechanism that the lyses use to communicate and hunted them one by one due to them not being able to inform the other lyses about the attack. Thus the Pyrokans opened new trade routes, and most importantly cleansed the water canal routes from the threat of the lyses.
