The Legend of the Jeils' Emergence
The Jeils appear as tall, strong-built humans. It is safe to say that, among all the humanoid races, they are are the one that resembles the humans the most.
There isn't any significant information about the emergence of the Jeils in human texts and legends. According to their own mythology, the Jeils are the progeny of a powerful nation that was forced to migrate to their current lands as the outcome of a natural disaster. During their journey, Azukkon; the king of the chimpanzees, approached the Jeil nation and tried to deceive them. In actuality, Azukkon is a deceitful and insidious demigod. He had been punished by the greatest god of Jeil mithology; “Arkokon” (the god of the clouds and the winds) and turned into a chmipanzee. Moreover, his powers had been limited to rule over the chimpanzees only. The same Azukkon offered the Jeils peace and prosperity in return of their worship. Tried to deceive them by saying that he would save them from the dire straits they were in.
According to Jeil history, Azukkon succeeded in deceiving certain Jeil tribes and took them to the south. These tribes later turned into the chimpanzee-people known as the Azukalala. These people that the Jeils refer to are in truth the anielen.
The azukalala, or the anielen as the humans call them, in time started to attack the Jeils with Azukkon's order. Since the Jeils, just like the anielen, migrated as far to the south as they could; to the banks of the River Rius, they were neighbors with their new enemies. Skirmishes between the two sides caused many deaths on both sides. In time the anielen transformed and became uglier, lost their old forms and turned into wild animals. Desperately, the Jeils asked for the help of their god; Arkokon and Arkokon decided to reward their loyalty by bestowing power upon them. Thus, the Jeils became taller, stronger and gained the might to deal with the anielen.
The story told in Jeil mythology clearly shows Jeils to be from human origination. Even today, the Jeils consider this tale that humans only regard as a myth as their real history and pass it to their newer generations.
The Habitat and Current Situation of the Jeils
The Jeils live in their state called Jeilkron in the present day. Jeilkron is a vassal state bound to the Galljan Empire. It is located to the west of the city of Orah, to the east of the River Is-Haa, to the south of the Hrossac Sierra and to the north of the Aniele vassal-state.
Long ago, the Jeils were forced to abandon their land in the banks of the River Rius. As well as attacks from the anieles, the aurions’ never-ending incursions and later the attacks by the barbaric Ancs forced them to migrate as far as the River Is-Haa and re-establish themselves there.
The hardships of living as a vassal of the Galons lead the Jeils to rebel often, however, each and every time the rebellions have been suppressed in a bloody manner. Jeils send a high amount of young people to the Empire as tax every year. These youths are trained and used in the Galon army.
Their state is ruled by some sort of a council of elders, with a chief as its leader. Other than the chief, there also is a king tasked with the command of the Jeil armies. This title doesn't have the same meaning as the title king used in other states. It stands for supreme commander and is ranked below the chief in the hierarchy.
The Jeils have an ancient language of their own. However, since it is mandatory for every adult to learn the Galon language, there are two official languages of their state.
The Jeils still are in constant war with the anielens. In fact, it is always the anielen that attack the first. The Jeils only enter the anielen lands to hunt them to sell to the Galons. It isn't possible for the state to wage an organized war, because the anielen also are a vassal-state of the Galons and Jeils starting an invasion on them technically means invading the Galon lands. Of course, the same applies to the anielens, however the anielen attacks are devoid of proper planning, started by singular tribes and without reason. Usually it ends with the slaughtering of the attackers. For this reason, the Aneielen attacks cannot be considered to be an invasion.
The Relation of the Jeils to Other Humans
It is forbidden for the Jeils to have communication with other human nations than the Galons. However, during the last decades the Pyrokans have constantly been sending spies to the Jeilkron lands and trying to provoke the Jeils against the Galons. Moreover, the Pyrokans, the Kemetians and the Asena Khaganate frequently visit the Jeil lands illegally and carry out trade activities despite the Galon prohibitations. The goods are generally weapons and information. In return they buy valuable and exotic goods like anielen slaves and katampra leather and teeth.
