The power... The power is always there. All we have to do is to reach out and claim it. So we think that we posses it, we own it.
Then it deceives us with its sweet voice. It lures us into giving more. “Only...” it says, “...only for a small price”. In time that price becomes greater. In time that bog becomes deeper.
It makes us addicted to itself. Its scent is so enchanting that we cannot spend a moment without savoring it. For we aren't the ruling one anymore. We are the one under its rule.
Its skin is so soft. Its gaze, equally alluring... Our soul belongs to it by then. Whenever we try to get rid of it we remember its fruits: Wealth, fame, sex, authority, respect, fear, love... They all are its favors. They all are its instruments. We get so accustomed to its Sovereign Symphony that we wouldn't know what do do if it ever falls silent. We despair.
However, that isn't even the most dreadful face of the power yet. We never are its only beloved. In time almost everyone helplessly enters its orbit, revolves around it. Conflict is inevitable. For everyone wants it, and wants it for themselves alone.
This is how all battles begin. Their excuses are often religion, politics, conquest or some other lie. However, there's only one single truth: Power... Unlimited power...
